In two intensive days you will learn how to set up your policies, your tooling, and your service organization, with no more than five processes and eight workflows, in an easily learnable management system. Goal

Service organizations that want to get their organization in order can use USM, the Unified Service Management method. The USM training deals with the management system of service providers. The student learns to make practical choices with USM, for managing his own organization. These choices are well-founded and easy to understand, because they are based on a powerful service management architecture. This provides insight and stability in the organization, its management and its policies. In turn, that is a precondition for the organization's sustainable performance improvement.

Standardization

Employees learn to understand each other better with USM. Standardization of policies (across multiple disciplines and organizational units) is now within reach. Supporting tools can be set up more easily and effectively with USM.

Content

The USM training emphasizes the process design of the service organization and its policies. After all, processes are the shortest and most efficient roads towards customer-relevant goals. On top of that, USM goes one step further and focuses entirely on the workflows used to organize the organization's practices. This way, organizations with a strong focus on hierarchical or project-based policies can gain much in effectiveness and efficiency. The USM Boostcamp follows the content of the USM Foundation Syllabus.

Program

The USM Boostcamp offers the following:

  • two full days plus an evening program
  • full USM Foundation program, but with extra exercises where students learn to translate the USM method to their own situation, and with additional time for discussions
  • USM Foundation exam at the end of the second day, so that you can return to your job with a USM certificate in your pocket
  • 1 x overnight stay, 1 x breakfast, 2 x lunch, 1 x dinner, drinks before and after dinner included

Language

The USM Boostcamp is normally delivered in Dutch. Upon request, the Boostcamp can be delivered in English.

Exams

Your understanding of USM is tested with the USM Foundation Exam. Successful candidates can (if they agree) be registered in the USM-Register. The exam fee (€ 150 ex VAT) is included in the USM Boostcamp. Students must bring a laptop or tablet to take the online exam.

Preparation

The USM method can easily be learned. Reading the book “The USM method” in advance enhances the effect of the training. An introductory training course is recommended for employees in disciplines that are rather unfamiliar with a focus on control and management systems. This prior knowledge is sufficiently available with staff in the IT discipline.

Group size

The training is suitable for groups of 6-12 students.

The USM Boostcamp can be used for all facility service providers (ranging from IT to building management, from human resources to security and cleaning), but is equally suitable for service organizations from the 'primary' domain, including municipalities, telcos, hospitals, etc. Every USM training can be tailored to the client's discipline.

Target organizations are service organizations that want to work in a uniform way, according to the latest insights, with an easily learnable and logical working method. Organizations that strive for Service and Customer Excellence, and that want to be able to achieve this with their own employees, without excessive dependence on external consultants, can find a paved road to that goal with USM.

In regular education programs for Facility Management, Business Administration, HRM, Financial Management, etc., very limited attention is paid to explicit management systems. For that reason, employees in those disciplines often have a disadvantage compared to employees in IT, where management systems have become very common due to the extreme dependence on IT facilities. Some basic prior knowledge is required to quickly understand the USM method and to reap the benefits. Organizations or students who do not have this prior knowledge may use an Introduction Training USM for Facility Management, or request a customized version of the training.

Targeted students are both the managers who are responsible for an organizational improvement project and the employees who have to learn to work in an organization that applies the USM method.
